Short question: Is it possible for Cygwin's rsync to write to an ext2 FS on a USB HD? (Specifically, my script relies on ext2-style hardlinks.) If so, how does one set that up?
Background:
I have a Linux VM that I want to back up to a USB drive. I have an rsync script that I used to use when the same Linux was on bare metal, to make rotating incremental backups to the USB drive's ext2 filesystem. Now that it's a VM, I have to be able to get at the drive differently, because the VM host is Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have two options for where to plug the USB drive in: the server, or the boss's desktop (Windows 7 Pro.) Both ways I envision using rsync on cygwin where it's plugged in.
