How to return a value in Access, Excel, and etc to task scheduler to either begin or stop a task?

How to return a value in Access, Excel, and etc. to task scheduler to either begin or stop a task? For example, I would like to run a macro in access that sends a failed message to task scheduler to stop the next process in line.
